We begin out tour with National Zoo, the largest zoo in Malaysia and situated just outside the city limits and yet a world away from its hustle and bustle. Located 13 km northeast of Kuala Lumpur, the National Zoo houses some 200 species of animal, bird and reptiles, while the aquarium has 80 species of marine and fresh – water life. Within the extensive grounds is an area for sea lions where visitors can see them being most active during feeding time. Next, proceed to the Royal Selangor factory where upon arrival, you will be taken for a tour of the Pewter Gallery. The gallery offers a host of interactive displays and fascinating exhibits, aimed at educating and titillating the sense. From the Gallery, we continue with the highlight of today’s tour – ’School of Hard nocks’. Using just a few simple tools (hammer, wooden mould, scraper), make a pewter dish personalized with your initials or message that you wish to engrave onto the dish. Step by step, the experienced pewtersmith will guide you through the simple process of forming, scraping, polishing and packing. The finished dish is for you to keep, along with an apron as a moment. A personalized certificate will be presented to you to attest to your newfound skills.
