Overview
Situated next to Kirirom National Park, Chambok has a lot of attractions and activities to offer to both local and international tourists who are strongly interested in nature. It is well known for its three streams, including the biggest with over 40 meters of beautiful waterfall. Tourists can take guided tours to one of those streams and enjoy the views while hiking through the forest. The English speaking guides will tell a lot about both animals living in the forests and plants growing there. Beside these three waterfalls there is a unique opportunity of experimenting a bat cave and its hundreds of inhabitants.
Location
Chambok is located in Kampong Speu province, which is in the Southwest of Cambodia. It is approximately 110km from Phnom Penh. It shares border with Kirirom National Park.
Accessibility
There are several ways to go to Chambok. You can either take a bus from Phnom Penh to Preah Sihanouk province and drop off at Treng Trayeung or you can take a mini bus directly to Treng Trayeung. It takes about 2.5 hours from Phnom Penh to Treng Trayeung (depending on the season). From Treng Trayeung, you can take motodop to the site. It will take another 45mn. Then, you can also rent a taxi in Phnom Penh to Chambok directly.
Establishment
Chambok Ecotourism Site was established in 2002 by an Environmental NGO called Mlup Baitong.
Attractions and Activities
Besides its forest and mountainous landscape, its waterfalls and streams and its bat cave Chambok offers great insights into the rural Cambodian culture, for example through traditional dance and music performances. Activities which can be enjoyed at Chambok are guided hiking tours through the forest to one of the waterfalls or streams, a bat cave visit, bird watching and animal trekking, bicycle and ox-cart riding and having a picnic prepared by a local women's group.
