KUALA LAMPUR
To describe Kuala Lumpur is like opening a book that has various exciting chapters. Yes, this only global city of Malaysia appears blessed with colors of modernism along with rich heritage. Though formally KL spans over an area of 244 sq kms, its plush precincts virtually get bigger to embrace the entire world. Kuala Lumpur is situated at the confluence of Sungai Gombak and Sungai Klang, and probably, that's how it got its name, which literally means 'muddy confluence' in Malay language.
THE PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS
The Petronas Twin Towers are acclaimed to be the tallest twin buildings of the world. Located at KLCC complex in Kuala Lumpur, Twin Towers undoubtedly are the pride of Malaysia. These buildings were constructed during 1992-1998 though were officially opened in 1999. They were assumed to be world's tallest structure from 1998 till 2004, however, the construction of Taipei 101 surpassed them with its additional 13 floors in 2004. Petronas, the national oil company of Malaysia, embarked to build the tallest building in the world.
CENTRAL MARKET
Also called Pasar Seni or Pasar Budaya, Central Market is actually one of the main attractions in Kuala Lumpur. This indoor marketplace is housed in an old building that was built by the British, in 1888. Earlier it used to be a wet market for the city inhabitants. Later it was revamped and expanded several times, though it took its final structure in 1933. During 1970's, the Malaysian Heritage Society acclaimed the building as a 'Heritage Site' when its demolition was intended.
CHINATOWN IN KUALA LUMPUR
Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur is located in the Petaling Street. It is called as Chi-Chong-Kai by the local Chinese. The area is known as the Petaling Street because the track from here led to the mines in the Petaling area some 17km away. Petaling Street maintains much of its traditional atmosphere, especially at night when vendors spread their wares out on the street. Chinatown market is famous for its pirated goods. You can buy pirated CDs, DVDs, copy watches, (Rolex, Gucci, Cartier, Breitling etc.), T-shirts (Nike, Reebok, Billabong, Quicksilver etc.), garments, leather goods, jewelry and much more. If you are not interested in shopping you can enjoy the bustling place by merely wandering and loitering in the area.
AQUARIA KLCC
One can reach Aquaria KLCC by hiring taxis or by boarding trains, buses from the city.Aquaria KLCC is a place where underwater world is showcased beautifully in Kuala Lumpur. Located in KL Convention Centre, it is a place worth discovering that what actually it is like to glide through the tropical rainforests. One can reach here through the underground interlink from Tower Records in Suria KLCC. The Aquaria has showcased some of the most entrancing aquatic creatures from all parts of the world. The park is sprawled in 60,000 sq ft (6,000 m²) of area in two levels.
BUKIT BINTANG
Bukit Bintang is a renowned shopping and entertainment district in Kuala Lumpur. It stretches along the famous road-Jalan Bukit Bintang, and slots in the areas of Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Imbi, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Sultan Ismail, and Jalan Ampang. Bukit Bintang has always been well-liked by people. With the changing times, it has undergone refurbishment to suit the tastes of people. And today, it appears simply incredible as it has got both, conventional as well as fashionable outlook.
CRAFT COMPLEX
The Kompleks Budaya Kraf, literally Cultural Craft Complex, is the celebrated place to catch amazing handicrafts, native to Malaysia. Located along Jalan Conlay in Kuala Lumpur, it is controlled by the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation-a constitutional body under Ministry of Culture, Art and Heritage. It presents some exclusive Malaysian handicrafts, such as, silk kaftan, bathrobes, silverware, mengkuang products, pewterware, glassware, pottery, silk batik paintings, and songket (brocade material).
DESA WATER PARK
Desa Waterpark is one of the largest amusement parks in Malaysia. Located in between the KL - Seremban Highway, the water park is built over an area of 12.6 acres and is bordered by 50 acres of lake. This fun-filled waterpark makes the best choice for people in quest of leisure and enjoyment. Due to a brilliant network of roads, Desa Water Park is easily accessible from most of the parts of Kuala Lumpur. It offers wholesome family entertainment and owing to its commendable features, it serves as an ideal place for hosting gatherings and family get-togethers.
ISTANA BUDAYA
Istana Budaya is the eminent venue for all forms of theatre, including operetta, classical concert, musical theater and opera, in Malaysia. Located next to the National Art Gallery in Jalan Tun Razak, Istana Budaya or the Palace of Culture is a major landmark in the city of Kuala Lumpur. This cultural center was founded in Sep' 1999 to promote the artistic and cultural heritage of the country. Sprawled in an area of 54,400 m², the Istana Budaya was formally inaugurated by the ex-Prime Minister of Malaysia -Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, in 1999.
THE LANGKAWA
The Langkawi archipelago is made up of a cluster of 99 islands, sprinkled just off the shores of the Northern Kedah State in Peninsular Malaysia. During low tide, the number of islands expands to 104. The main island known as Pulau Langkawi is a very popular tourist resort.
BATU CAVES MALAYSIA
The Batu Caves are a series of tall limestone caves, home to a Hindu temple that lie 13 km north of Kuala Lumpur. Of the three caves that comprise the site, the largest and best known is the Temple or Cathedral Cave, so named because it houses a Hindu shrine beneath its 100 m vaulted ceiling. In late January of each year, during the Hindu festival of Thaipusam, thousands of devotees and other visitors climb the long entry stair and throng this magnificent cavern.
TAMAN NEGARA PAHANG
Taman Negara National Park is one of the world's oldest tropical rain forests with a diversity of flora and fauna life, which has evolved over a period of over 130 million years. The park shares a protected area of 4,343 sq km amongst Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. One can see over 10,000 species of plants, 250 kinds of birds and mammals such as mouse deers, barking deers, wild oxen, and numerous monkey species along with evading species such as tapirs, elephants, leopards and tigers.Gunung Tahan, the highest mountain of Malaysia, is situated in Taman Negara. It is one of the most favourable destinations for trekking. The other activities that you can enjoy in Taman Negara include fishing in the Tahan or Kenyam rivers and white water rafting in the rapids of Sungai Tembeling.
TIOMAN ISLAND MALAYSIA
The fabled island of Tioman is situated 36 nautical miles from the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The island is regarded as a jewel in the sea, according to a Malaysian legend. The towering dual volcanic peak, the soft sands, swaying palms and vibrant profusion of tropical wildflowers in Tioman all adds to its completely enchanting panorama. The island is also blessed by abundance of Marine life.
CAMERON HIGHLAND
Cameron Highlands is the largest and most famous hill resort of Malaysia. Discovered by a British surveyor, William Cameron in 1885, this highland paradise still retains much of the charm of an English village. Cameron Highlands is famous for its breathtaking scenery with cool-lush mountains peaks, waterfalls, tea plantations, and terraces of vegetable, fruit and flower gardens. The hill station has an altitude of 1500 m.Cameron Highlands is the smallest district in the state of Pahang. Although it is in Pahang, its two main exits go to Tapah and Ipoh in the state of Perak. It is made up of 3 main townships at different altitudes. The lowest is Ringlet, 1,200 meters above sea level situated near Bertam Valley where the soil is rich thus making this area the main agricultural center of the highlands. TELAGA TUJUH
The Telaga Tujuh, precisely called Seven Wells, is a beautifully crafted geological manifestation. While taking the cable car ride to the top of Gunung Mat Cincang, you can perceive the awe-inspiring view of Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls. Located along Gunung Mat Cincang in the north-western corner of Pulau Langkawi, this picturesque waterfall is named such because its gushing water stream is broken by a series of seven natural pools.
GUA CERITA
The Gua Cerita, literally the Cave of Legends, is a fascinating cave on the island of Langkawi. As the name suggests, it is shrouded in legendary tales of mystery and romance. It is easily reachable by boat from Tanjung Rhu. Gua Cherita comprises two limestone caves sited one above the other. Overlooking the azure waters of the sea, this cave is linked with numerous legends. Every year, thousands of travelers come to have a glimpse of this limestone marvel.
Burau Bay Beach BURAU BAY BEACH
Burau Bay Beach, called Pantai Teluk Burau in Malay, is one of the tranquil bay areas in Langkawi. It's actually a narrow beach where the rocky Gunung Cincang descends abruptly to meet the sea. Sited on the west coast of the island, this beach formerly used to be the resort of the Piped Hornbill. Besides Burau Bay, the island features the Kuala Teriang fishing village, Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls and Padang Matsirat on its western shoreline.
BUKI NANAS FOREST RESERVE
Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve is known to be one of the oldest permanent forest reserves in Malaysia. Earlier known as Bucket Weld Forest Reserve, Bukit Nanas was declared as a forest reserve in 1906. In 1934, it got the recognition of being a Wildlife Reserve and Bird Sanctuary. Later, in 1950, its unspoiled section of about five hectares was declared as a Virgin Jungle Reserve. The Reserve, sprawled in 10.5 hectares, is a remarkable tropical rainforest near KL Tower in Kuala Lumpur.
KUALA LUMPUR BIRD PARK
Taman Burung Kuala Lumpur, literally Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, is a unique habitat of birds in the capital of Malaysia. KL Bird Park is famous globally as 'The World's Largest Covered Bird Park'. In 1991, the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park was formally opened by Her Majesty Queen of Malaysia-Tunku Bainun. Ever since it has been managed by DBKL (City Hall) until its administration got into the hands of Safari Bird Park & Wonderland, in 2001.
